The bright green heart-shaped leaves of Kawakawa (Macropiper exelsum) native to New Zealand nurture many medicinal properties. Traditionally used by Maori not only as a medicine but also as a significant part of many ceremonies, Kawakawa is an important part of both the physical and spiritual worlds and revered for its innate power.

Kawakawa is a whole plant pharmacy in itself, capable of many different actions that make it useful for a wide array of conditions. It has a variety of active constituents which make it a complex and powerful medicine, as anyone who has made a fresh cup of Kawakawa tea will share with you! Many a European settler used it whilst awaiting shipments of black tea, and it fast become known  as a pick me up for all the hard workers. The blend doesn’t contain caffeine like tea does however , it is known as a refreshing, rejuvenating and uplifting tonic to improve energy and stamina.
